The text for this message on May 9 was Colossians 2:6-15.
In the same way that one fully expects an infant child to mature, the biblical expectation is that a Christian will mature.
- Some Christians are infants, constantly in need of others to meet their needs.
- Some Christians are grade-school children, self-sufficient in the basic elements of self-care and learning that others have needs too.
- Some Christians are adolescents, capable of meeting the needs of others yet in need of further coaching.
- Some Christians are mature adults, proactively seeking to meet the needs of others with the Gospel.
The passage teaches three very clear things:
- Salvation presumes maturation.
- Maturation prevents deception.
- Maturation reflects the nature of Jesus who lives within us.
The question for Lake Murray is this: how will we make mature disciples?
